Shamans of the Amazon
Shamans of the Amazon is a personal account of Film-maker Dean Jefferys returning to the Amazon with his partner and one year old daughter. They journey deep into the heart of the Ecuadorian rainforest to meet two Amazon Shamans, to learn about and experience the ancient ayahuasca ritual. Directed and produced by Dean Jefferys from Australia it weaves a story about the plight of the Amazon and its inhabitants (who are under threat and exploitation from oil companies and deforestation) with stories and details of Ayahuasca ("Vine of the dead", "vine of souls") - a traditional plant teacher used by the shamans for its visionary properties. Also features an interview with Terrence McKenna. There is some real emotion expressed by some of the shaman interviewed, as they detail how their lands are being destroyed, and their people attacked. It is easy to share their anger even though being a world apart from it. The pollution from the oil production plants is damaging the environment, along with the deforestation.
